Our join-ups continue to bring together the Surface Warfare community of Newport.  These join-ups

following seas to Captain Neil Parrott who has manned the helm as our president for the last three
years.  Finally, we accepted 5 new members and received the continued membership of 3 existing
members.

On May 18th the Newport Chapter hosted its biannual 5K By the Bay.  263 runners, walkers, and
strollers participated in the SNA race that began and finished at the Surface Warfare Officers School.
The course wound through Coasters’ Harbor Island, crossed over to Coddington Point, and before
finishing behind Weakley Hall at SWOS. The top finisher for the men was Michael Tammaro with a
time of 17:20. Shira Fuller was the top female runner with a time of 19:33.  The race raised $2,500 for
the Wounded Warrior Project, whose purpose is to raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the
needs of injured service members, to help injured service members aid and assist each other, and to
provide unique direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.
