The USS CONSTITUTION Chapter, established in 1988, has a close association with the USS CONSTITUTION, the U.S. Navy’s oldest commissioned ship. The rich history of this vessel, as a living symbol of surface navy excellence, gives our chapter members the opportunity to participate in programs and events which promote the Surface Navy community at large. Commanding Officer, USS CONSTITUTION is an active member of the Chapter Board of Directors.
Chapter members include both active and retired officers and enlisted USN, USNR, USCG, a large segment of civilian “corporate” members as well as members of other services residing in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The Chapter is proud of its associations with members of the Navy League, Naval Recruiting District New England, the USCG Cuttermans Association, the Wardroom Club of Boston, the Military Historical Society of Massachusetts, and other military organizations.
George Sirian Meritorious Service Award (GSA) is a Navy-wide program that each year recognizes the outstanding Surface Warfare Chief Petty Officer (E-7) who most exemplifies surface warfare excellence. First awarded in 2003. It is named for George Sirian, who served in the Navy for nearly fifty years, rising through the ranks from ordinary seaman to master gunner and warrant officer. Sirian's service included multiple tours on USS CONSTITUTION during her prime years as a ship of the line in the first half of the 19th century. His technical expertise, dedication, and leadership remain an inspirational model for the Chief Petty officers of today's Navy.
